Introduction
The "PEGASO" Project Unit was born with the purpose of developing the research and development activities linked to the project for the "Enhancement of the Underwater Geophysical and Environmental networks" (PEGASO) and connected with the monitoring activities in the underwater environment. The PEGASO project, supported by the Board of Industry (measure 3.15 action C), co-financed by INGV and INFN, sees the collaboration with the Rome 2 Section of the INGV and with the National Laboratories of the South of INFN. The PEGASO project seeks to realise an innovative marine monitoring system capable of acquiring a long series of temporal parameters having a geophysical, geochemical, environmental and oceanographic nature.
- Deepening the study of the underwater natural and environmental phenomena in collaboration with other national and international research groups, and supporting ongoing projects by creating an “open” laboratory, capable of attracting other international-scale experiments;
- Drafting predictive models of the phenomena having a geophysical and environmental interest in support of the public organisms dedicated to the management of the territory;
- Transferring cutting-edge technologies for marine monitoring down to elevated depths, developed and qualified within the scope of projects previously financed by bodies such as the European Commission, significantly contributing to the development of a scientific and technological pole capable of producing economic repercussions (investments and employment) for the companies involved.
