Collections of the Library of the National Institute of Volcanology and Geophysics (I.N.G.V.) in Palermo are strongly characterized in geochemistry and volcanology, including reference books, monographs, journals, bulletins, reports, most of them being part of the old library collection of the Institute of Geochemistry of Fluids (I.G.F.). This institute was part of the National Research Council and in 2001 it joined in the new institute (I.N.G.V.).

Subjects and topics of the monographs belong chiefly to: geography, physical geography, oceanography, environmental sciences, general sciences, mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, natural history, biology, microbiology, social aspects of medicine, general agriculture, technology and environmental and chemical technology, mining engineering.
Altogether the library owns about 2500 volumes.
